SNORE Battle at Primm – 2010

The SNORE Battle at Primm race was held Feb 20-21 at State Line under partly cloudy skies with the possibility of rain during both days of the event. The rain never interfered with racers and that made for a dusty track and difficult passing. This event has pulled the largest number of class of 1450 racers for the last 2 years. Entries in the class have raised the bar for race vehicle power plants, set ups, and with the profile of names who enter it.

With nearly $10,000 up for grabs in contingency money and prizes it tops the list as being one of the richest off road races for sportsman class 1450 racers. And the award that was anybody’s to win was the TOTAL CHAOS “LUCKY #7” contingency prize that was $4200 in cash and prizes for the 7th place official finisher! Companies that joined the TOTAL CHAOS 7th place award were: K&N, LIFT Safety, ICON Vehicle Dynamics, Light Force, Doug Thorley, Inland Powder Coating, T Rex Billet Grills, Deaver Leaf Spring, Dezert People.

The 2 day event was action packed, with lots of pre race smack talking and 72 racers who were willing to put it on the line and see where they stacked up against the competition. 18 rows of racers started 4 trucks wide on the muddy infield of the CORR short course track. A lottery starting order dictated who door battled in the dust and who got lucky with clean air. Transponders determined the finishing order that determined the Sunday starting grid.

SNORE Battle at Primm – Day 1

TOTAL CHAOS driver # 1429 Dan Vance raced his way to 6th place on Saturday from a second to last row start despite the dust and number of slower trucks he had to pass in the 3 laps. His TC suspension dominated in the rough and the Toyota 4.0 power plant was competitive enough stay on race pace despite the disadvantaged start. TC driver # 1486 Mike Koenig started row 4 and by mile 2 had his tool box out to repair the sector shaft of his steering box that broke after he nerfed a stalled competitor in the berm. Koenig hustled to repair the truck and get back on the course, but missed the closing time to begin lap 2 and concluded day 1 with a DNF. TC Brian Groves drew 7th row start and stated after the race, “We ran our little stock 22re 4cy with 300k miles on it full kill. Where we lost ground in the hp department we would make back up with our TOTAL CHAOS/Deaver Spring equipped suspension by passing several trucks on the first lap in the rough. We ran a smooth pace saving the truck knowing Sunday’s race would be a rougher course.” The attrition was heavy and several racers were unable to start the race on Sunday.

SNORE Battle at Primm – Day 2

19 racers completed every mile of the race. Vance earned himself a front class start after battling his way past the competition on day 1, only to have his day end early on lap one with a busted heim joint. Koenig started 62nd and drove his way to a 10th place finish on Sunday despite how brutal the course was chewed up from over 300 entries. Koenig stated,” It was a monster struggle, with a good helping hand of luck that ended much better than we expected.” The TC trooper award goes to Brian Groves and co-driver Rick Koutzoukis for keeping their Toyota together on both days to hang on for a 17th place finish overall. Brian stated after the race, “With a truck rolling right off the start in front of us we lost ground right from the get go in the CORR track. We caught back up through the rhythm section, and from then on we realized the course had changed for the worse. The bumps were now mountains and holes were big enough to swallow the entire truck. The Total Chaos and Deaver Suspension really took everything I could dish out to it with out missing a beat. We picked up the pace on the second and third lap and finished a strong 17th place. Against much larger horsepower competition, we held our own by having a reliable and well tuned truck. I cant wait for the next one!”
